Our Mission

​

The Association has been formed to be a professional, educational and social association with the primary purposes and objectives of:

• promoting the growth of soccer

• coordinating the assignment of its members as officials to soccer matches engaged in by member schools of the Florida High School Athletic Association (hereinafter referred to as "FHSAA") in the Florida counties of Manatee, Sarasota, DeSoto, and Charlotte, and/or such other jurisdictions or counties as may be approved by the membership, and to the State Series tournaments conducted by FHSAA

• providing education, training and clinics in order to develop and refine the officiating skills of its members

• promoting camaraderie amongst its members

• recruiting and training new and minority officials​

 

Our Story

Manasota Soccer Referee Association (MSRA) was founded in 1980 as the Manasota Soccer Referee Club. The club initially served as a platform for Manatee and Sarasota soccer youth, hosting monthly meetings at the Sarasota Football Club to evaluate and compensate referees. Two referees were assigned to each county, responsible for collecting fees from clubs and distributing them to referees at the monthly meetings.

 

1985, the club received a request to join the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) and establish a registered association with the state of Florida. This move was necessitated by the club’s adherence to FHSAA requirements. At that time, the club consisted of eight schools, four in each county.

 

Over the years, the association’s scope expanded to include high schools. Both counties agreed to reimburse the association for the referees’ expenses during youth games on the field. Several years later, the association was approached to serve Charlotte County and DeSoto County. Subsequently, Lake Placid and Wauchula schools withdrew after two years.

 

Currently, MSRA serves over 25 high schools across four counties. Additionally, the association provides services to over 50 middle schools.
